Homemade Applesauce Recipe

6-8 medium-sized apples (a mix of sweet and tart varieties like Gala and Granny Smith) 1/2 cup water 2 tablespoons lemon juice (optional, for added brightness)

Wash, peel, core, and chop the apples into roughly equal-sized chunks. Removing the peel is optional, depending on your preference.

In a large saucepan, combine the chopped apples, water, and lemon juice. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.

Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let the apples simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until they become tender.

Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.

Once the apples are soft, you can choose your preferred texture. For chunky applesauce, use a potato masher to mash the apples directly in the saucepan.

For a smoother consistency, transfer the cooked apples to a blender or food processor and blend until you reach your desired texture.

Return the mashed or pureed apples to the saucepan. Add granulated sugar to sweeten, and ground cinnamon for a touch of warmth and flavor.
