Homemade Apple Butter Recipe

6 pounds of apples (a mix of sweet and tart varieties) 1 cup granulated sugar 1 cup light brown sugar, packed 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Wash, peel, core, and chop the apples into roughly equal-sized chunks. Removing the peel is optional.

Instructions

Place the chopped apples in a slow cooker or large pot on the stove.

Cook on low heat for 4-6 hours, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft and can be easily mashed.

Use an immersion blender or transfer the softened apples to a blender or food processor. Blend until you achieve a smooth puree.

Return the apple puree to the slow cooker or pot. Stir in granulated sugar, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground cloves, and salt.

Cook the mixture on low heat, leaving the slow cooker lid slightly ajar to allow moisture to escape.

Allow the mixture to simmer for an additional 4-6 hours or until it reaches a thick, butter-like consistency. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
